For example, utility provider Southern California Edison (SCE) saw a 400% increase of usage of online self-service tools for pricing comparisons. After being able to fine-tune their energy plans, there was a rise from 66% to 82% in customers believing they got the best rate.

They successfully transitioned more than half of their 4.5 million residential customers to a TOU (time-of-use) rate. At the peak load in August 2022, residential TOU was estimated to generate up to 75 MW of load reduction.

And an East Coast utility provider with 1.1 million customers saw population-wide cost reduction impacts after implementing a TOU pilot, which has since been approved as a full scale opt-out program.
