A NOTE FROM GRIDX

Hey friends, my name is Decimal but you can call me Deci for short! I wanted to introduce myself as you’ll be seeing a lot more of me as one of the newest #cleanenergycatalysts at GridX!

I dream big, have a passion for addressing climate change and positively impacting future generations. I embrace complexity and exist to simplify our clean energy journey. I’m proud to be a part of the GridX team, providing solutions that help people translate the impact of their clean energy decisions into dollars and cents.

Erin Hardick

Erin Hardick is a producer and researcher for Latitude Media and has almost a decade of experience in the energy industry. Below are highlights of a conversation we had on trends she is exploring and her approach to covering the energy transition. You can read the full interview here. 1. What are the most significant trends you’re observing in the energy sector right now, and how do you see these shaping the future of the industry?

The biggest trend is that utilities are starting to scale technology research and development pilots to operations – both hardware and software solutions. Scaling these projects requires large investments, which regulators have to approve. So regulators now have to face the challenge of what is a reasonable capital investment on these first-of-a-kind utility technologies and what is not.

2. What are the biggest challenges you face when reporting on the energy industry, and how do you ensure accuracy and impartiality in your stories?

Tracking technology deployments is difficult. Current information can be hard to access because it’s not always publicly available. And if it is, it often requires digging through regulatory filings…which are not the most user friendly databases to navigate!

3. How do you envision the role of podcasts and digital media evolving in the energy sector, especially in terms of educating and engaging people?

The role of podcasts and digital media is to highlight the progress and put projects in the context of broader industry changes. For instance, regulators want to know what utilities in other states are doing and how those regulatory bodies are handling innovation. In return, utilities want to know how regulators outside of their service territory are dealing with technology deployments. And they want to know what is working for other utilities.

4. Can you share a story or podcast episode that had a significant impact on how you view the energy transition? What made it so influential?

In February, Catalyst with Shayle Kann did a two part conversation on 2024 decarbonization trends with Nat Bullard, who is an absolutel wizard on the topic.

PSEG Long Island Wins Prestigious Award

PSEG Long Island received the CS Week Expanding Excellence Award for Innovation in Digital Engagement due to its successful Time-of-Use (TOU) rate program. This effort, part of their Utility 2.0 initiative, lowered customer bills by an average of 10% and shifted 4-5% of peak electricity load. The collaborative effort utilized GridX’s advanced tools to enhance customer experience, engagement and billing.

Better Serving Business Customers

A large Midwest utility recently went live with GridX Empower to better serve its commercial and SMB customers. Having recently transitioned to AMI meters and new TOU rates, the utility needed a solution that would both satisfy regulatory requirements and provide their customers with a positive experience when adopting new rates. GridX Empower is helping them provide valuable rate comparisons and other insights within the MyAccount experience to help customers save money and shift load during times of peak demand.

 Ensuring Seamless TOU Transitions

A leading Northwest utility has selected GridX and Uplight to deliver innovative customer engagement solutions, with insights powered by our rate engine, to help promote the adoption of TOU rates. These solutions will provide detailed analysis to help recruit and enroll residential and business customers by showing them how their energy bills will be impacted by different rate plans. This project will allow the utility to accurately communicate different clean energy and rate options, and the related financial impact of these choices.
